Abductees Rescued: Five abductees rescued in Sagaing Region

Five civilians, including two female teachers and three teacher-training college students, have been rescued by security forces after being abducted by PDF terrorists in Sagaing Region, according to local authorities.

The abduction occurred on May 24, as a group of nine individuals including teachers, students, parents, and locals, were en route from Pwinttauk Village boat jetty in Setottaya Township to Magway for educational purposes. The group was intercepted at the jetty by armed PDF members, who reportedly threatened the group and forcibly transported them to nearby areas of Ma Gyi Village, warning students not to pursue further education.

Following the incident, the security units initiated a search-and-rescue operation across the region. On June 8, five of the abducted individuals were successfully located and rescued in Pan Ei village, about 24 kilometers north of Setottaya Township.

The recovered individuals are Daw Phyo Wei Wei Myint, a high school teacher from Branch High School, Yethaung, Daw Cho Thazin Oo, a primary school teacher from Post Primary School, Taung Han Dauk , Ma Khin Moe Wai and Ma Nwe Nwe Hlaing, third-year students from Magway Education College and Ma Khin Su Su Hlaing, a second-year student from Pakokku Education College.

Authorities reported that these individuals were provided with necessary medical care and support following their recovery. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining four abductees, one student, two parents, and one civilian.

The public have condemned the PDF's actions, labeling them as human rights violations targeting civilians unrelated to military operations. Authorities urge all citizens to immediately inform local security units if they have any information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining abductees or similar threats. All tips will be treated confidentially to ensure the safety of informants.
