7,774 people break Guinness World Record with massive Horon Dance in Istanbul

The traditional folk dance of Turkiye’s Black Sea region echoed across Istanbul as 7,774 people performed the horon together, setting a new Guinness World Record. The record-breaking event took place at the Maltepe Event Area on Istanbul’s Asian side, where thousands of participants, dressed in colorful traditional costumes, gathered to celebrate one of Turkiye’s most iconic folk dances.

Organized by the Turkish Folk Dance Federation, the event, titled “Horon Bizumdur” (Horon Is Ours), aimed to promote Turkish folk dances on the global stage while highlighting the importance of preserving the country’s cultural heritage.
