Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe sent a message to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Sergey Lavrov on the occasion of the 75th Diamond Jubilee of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries falling on the 18th of February 2023.

In his message, the Union Minister stressed that Myanmar and the Russian Federation have maintained and cherished long-standing cordial relations and close cooperation over the past seventy-five years. It is also a matter of profound satisfaction that Myanmar and Russia enjoy close collaboration in regional and international frameworks, including ASEAN, ASEM and the United Nations.

Enhancing the coordination and cooperation is expected in bilateral, regional, and multilateral contexts in the years ahead to serve the interests of the two nations and peoples. He also expressed his willingness to make joint efforts with his counterpart to consolidate the friendly and cooperative relations between the two ministries and countries.

Likewise, the Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergey Lavrov sent a message to the Union Minister on this 75th Diamond Jubilee of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.

Through his message, the Foreign Minister said that the bilateral ties are gradually developing in a wide range of areas on the basis of traditional friendship, mutual understanding and respect, which have been formed between the countries during the last decades.

He’s glad to note the building up of a trustful political dialogue and practical cooperation in priority areas that have been evidenced by the meeting of the two heads of state on the margins of the 7th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok in September of 2022.

The two sides attach great importance to strengthening interaction between the foreign ministries on urgent issues of the global and regional agenda, and coordination efforts in multilateral organizations and fora.

Myanmar’s intention to join the activity of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Eurasian Economic Union has created a new vector of collaboration. They are convinced that this all contributes to security and sustainable development in the South East Asia and Asia-Pacific region as a whole.
