59th ASEAN STOM: MoTC DM delivered the opening address

The 59th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) and the 4th ASEAN–U.S. Senior Transport Officials Dialogue, hosted by Myanmar, were officially inaugurated on May 21, 2025, at the Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel, under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun, who delivered the opening address. In his speech, he welcomed all the senior officials from ASEAN member countries and dialogue partner nations who joined the meetings. He expressed his appreciation for the ongoing collaborative efforts to strengthen transport cooperation within the ASEAN region and reaffirmed Myanmar’s active participation in line with ASEAN principles, goals, and work plans. He also extended heartfelt thanks for the support and assistance provided by ASEAN member countries to the areas in Myanmar affected by recent earthquake.

Myanmar previously hosted the ASEAN Transport Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ Meetings in 2014, and is once again taking its rotational turn as host in 2025. The 59th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting and its associated meetings are being attended by senior officials and delegates from ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, and dialogue partners, including China and Japan.
