






Acting President Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, delivered an honorary video address at the opening ceremony of the 54th Myanmar Health Research Congress, held in the morning of January 26 at the Department of Medical Research, No. 5, Ziwaka Road, Dagon Township, Yangon. After the Acting President SSPC Chairman’s honorary video address, Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win stated that in implementing the main objectives of the Ministry of Health, medical research is a crucial pillar.
The Ministry of Health has organized the Myanmar Health Research Congress annually, and this year marks the 54th session. The Union Minister mentioned that the Ministry of Health has been increasing the annual allocation of research funds to further enable research activities. For the 2025-2026 fiscal year, research funds totaling 1.5 billion kyats have been approved for 150 research projects.
He expressed his delight to see that at this year's congress, research findings from projects funded by the Ministry's research funds in previous years are being presented as research papers/posters. He emphasized the need for various departments to collaborate annually in conducting nationwide health surveys that can identify key health issues requiring solutions in the country, based on evidence-based research findings.
He also noted that enhancing the nation's healthcare depends on the research capabilities of its citizens. Therefore, the Ministry will continue to support the further development and advancement of research. Following that, the Director General of the Department of Medical Research, Professor Dr. Aye Aye Khin, delivered a welcome and greeting address.
Afterwards, a video clip showcasing the Department of Medical Research profile and its activities during the 2024-2025 year was presented. Attendees then took a commemorative group photo. After the opening ceremony, Union Minister Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Yangon Region ministers, Directors General and Rectors from the Ministry of Health, medical research scientists, keynote research presenters, and domestic and international experts toured the research poster exhibition.
