3rd Pyithu Hluttaw Session: 2nd Day of 2nd regular session convened

The second day of the Second Regular Session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw was held today, June 3, at 10:00 a.m. in the Pyithu Hluttaw Meeting Hall in Nay Pyi Taw.

According to the agenda, the question-and-answer session began with U Thein Tun Oo, representative from Amarapura Constituency, asking what measures would be taken to clear the water hyacinths proliferating in Taungthaman Lake, prevent their reappearance and further spread, and maintain the lake as a clean and pleasant water body. He also asked how the government would reduce waterlogged areas to increase the amount of cultivable land during the summer and winter seasons, and what plans were in place to restore the seasonal natural beauty and harmony of Taungthaman Lake and the U Bein Bridge.

Sai Sein Win, representative from Laihka Constituency, asked whether the government had plans to assist farmers by providing necessary agricultural loans, farm machinery such as tractors, crop storage facilities, technology, and market access. He further requested that such support be given priority if no current plans existed. Along with these, a total of six questions were raised. Responses were provided by Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Khin Maung Latt and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw.

Following this, Dr. Htay Win, representative from Ingapu Constituency, submitted a proposal urging the Union Government to establish a commission for stabilizing the prices of agricultural products produced from farmlands, floodplains and sandbars, and orchards. The Hluttaw agreed to accept and discuss the proposal.

The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw then explained matters relating to the formation of the Committee on Local and International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Subsequently, the Deputy Speaker explained the committee’s duties, powers, rights, tenure, and meeting procedures.

The Speaker then submitted to the Hluttaw a list of 15 members for the formation of the Committee included U That Pon, representative from Sagaing Constituency, as Chairperson, and U Tun Lwin, representative from Chaung-U Constituency, as Secretary.

Today's meeting was adjourned at 11:27 a.m. The third day of the session is scheduled to continue on June 5 at 10:00 a.m. it’s reported.
