Three regions of Bolivia have been declared under "red alert" due to heavy rains that have flooded neighborhoods, crops and forced the evacuation of dozens of families.

One person died Sunday in Cochabamba after floodwaters from the swelling of the river that crosses the city pushed a vehicle into a canal. Floods also affected avenues, crops, and a chicken farm, with some 17,000 chickens having drowned Sunday. The regions of Santa Cruz, Beni and Cochabamba were the most affected. The National Weather Service said that the rains will continue during the week and that the rain period will last between January and March.
