The Yulong Snow Mountain, a famous scenic spot in southwest China's Yunnan Province, has been proven by camera footage as the habitat of at least 15 key national protected animals.

Several Szechenyi's monal-partridges and koklass pheasants wandering in the forest and looking around for food. Szechenyi's monal-partridge is an endangered species under national first-class protection, and koklass pheasant second-class protection. Many other rare species like the leopard cat and yellow-throated marten were also captured by the infrared cameras.

The mountain has been placed within a nature reserve that has preserved its favorable terrain and climate, helping to nurture a rich variety of plants in its 960 square kilometers of forests In order to monitor the status of wildlife in the region, local authorities have installed 80 auto-sensing infrared cameras in the region.

In a recent joint mission, the Yulong Snow Mountain Management Committee and the local forest fire brigade retrieved video materials from the infrared cameras, in which they identified these rare animals. "Since the beginning of wildlife monitoring in 2016, we have spotted 15 kinds of national key protected wild animals," said an employee of the Yulong Snow Mountain Management Committee.
