17th Conference of Parties on Biodiversity in Yerevan, Armenia

Addressing the Leaders’ Summit at the 17th Conference of Parties on Biodiversity in Yerevan, Armenia on 16 October Secretary-General António Guterres said the signing of the Montreal-Kunming Global Biodiversity Framework four years ago, “laid out a path to make peace with nature” and urged “more action, more speed and more will” to protect vital global biodiversity.

He noted that the Global Biodiversity Framework has inspired action across the globe and that nearly 90 percent of Parties to the Convention have established national biodiversity targets.

Guterres called for leadership action in three critical areas to help the world meet the 30×30 target set in Montreal: leadership by governments, financial leadership and leadership by all, including young people, indigenous groups and the private sector.
