The Kachin State government organised a walk in Myitkyina on Thursday morning to mark International White Cane Day, promoting equal rights, mobility and social inclusion for people who are blind or visually impaired.
The walk began at 6 a.m. from a gathering point in front of the public sports stadium on Thakhin Net Pe Road. Participants walked along several streets before returning to the stadium, where they were welcomed with refreshments and breakfast.
At a commemorative ceremony, Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan said the day recognised the right of visually impaired people to move freely, enjoy equal opportunities and participate fully in society. He added that such events help boost their confidence and demonstrate compassion and support. The ceremony also featured musical performances by students from Myitkyina Christian School for the Blind, with awards presented to the performers.
