Argentina's Milei warns arbitration over Falklands oil project

Argentine President Javier Milei on Monday warned the United Kingdom, giving a two-week ultimatum to halt work on the Sea Lion oil project or face international arbitration and a case at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

The project is a joint venture led by Israel's Navitas Petroleum and Britain's Rockhopper Exploration, both of which have stated they hold valid exploration licenses issued by the UK. Buenos Aires claims the UK's authorization violates United Nations resolutions that urge both countries to avoid unilateral moves while their sovereignty dispute over the islands.
