India’s Permanent Representative to the UN highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s message of non-violence and its relevance for peace, sustainability and global solidarity on the International Day of Non-Violence. Ambassador P. Harish said that Gandhiji’s vision of Sarvodaya also guides India’s priorities for its UNSC 2028–29 term, reflected in the theme SHANTI: Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity.

He also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s conversation with Indian pilot Smit Machchhar, whose courageous actions helped save many lives, describing it as an embodiment of non-violence.
