Maldives and Japan celebrate a decade of Embassy ties

Marking a major milestone in bilateral relations, the Maldives and Japan celebrated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Japanese Embassy in Male.

Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam graced the special event as the Chief Guest, while First Lady Sajidha Mohamed delivered a congratulatory video message highlighting Japan’s instrumental role in the Maldives’ infrastructure development and the profound people-to-people bonds shared between the two archipelagic nations.

Reflecting on the past decade, Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, noted that the opening of the embassy in 2016 marked a transformative chapter in bilateral ties, streamlining consular services, enhancing diplomatic dialogue, and fostering cooperation across multiple sectors.
