1st October marks the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. A National Day reception was held at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai following a flag-raising ceremony.

The reception kicked off with a musical performance. Three musicians and over 20 students play traditional pieces using a mix of Chinese and Western instruments. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC Leung Chun-ying, Director of the Liaison Office Zhou Ji, Chief Executive John Lee and various government officials propose a toast to the attending guests.

Delivering his speech, Lee said this National Day is particularly meaningful as it follows the release of Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan. Lee also said the Five-Year Plan is a strategic move to leverage the unique advantages of “One Country, Two System” and seize national development opportunities.
