Aftermath of heavy rain and typhoon

Tropical Storm Surigae passed northeast in waters south of Tokyo. Caution against possible landslides is advised for people in Chiba Prefecture as heavy rain may fall there through around Thursday noon.

The area has recently suffered torrential rains. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the storm moved northeast near Hachijojima Island at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and it had a central atmospheric pressure of 1,002 hectopascals, with a maximum wind speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour and a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 90 kilometers per hour.

The Meteorological Agency urged residents in the southern part of the Izu Islands to be on the alert for lightning strikes and gusty winds, including tornadoes, through around noon.
