Five British from London have been arrested

Five British men in their 20s, all from London, have been arrested over a suspected bomb plot near RAF Fairford, Counter Terrorism Policing said. The suspects were arrested in the village of Whelford on Sunday morning and are being held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

The airbase is used by the US military. Speaking at the Labour Party conference, UK Defence Minister Wes Streeting said a live police investigation limited what he could disclose. He also addressed reports that a local farmer alerted police after seeing a road blocked by three white vans near the base.

Wes Streeting, UK Defence Minister said “I do want to say that our friendship with America is the closest alliance of any two nations on earth and we will always stand together against those who hate our freedom and those who wish us harm.”

Counter Terrorism Policing said officers are still working to establish a motive for the incident.
