The Sound of Music Museum has opened at Schloss Hellbrunn in Salzburg of Austria. The museum’s establishment followed years of planning and disputes over film rights. The film has cult status among US tourists, who often visit Salzburg primarily because of the movie.

The museum aims also to engage locals with the film and the Trapp family history. Among the first visitors there was also an elderly woman, who has a close connection to the film she was an extra in the movie and still has the dirndl she wore back then. The museum claims to be the world’s only Sound of Music museum displaying both the film’s history and the family’s story.
