Paris exhibition explores art and science

For four centuries, drawing plants, animals and natural specimens has played an important role in scientific research, according to a new exhibition at Paris’s National Museum of Natural History.

Opening on September 23, the Artists at the Museum exhibition explores the long-standing collaboration between artists and scientists through illustrations, paintings, sculptures and taxidermy. The exhibition highlights the role of artistic representation in depicting, comparing and classifying species, visualizing subjects that can no longer be seen, reconstructing the past and sharing scientific knowledge. It also features artists inspired by the museum’s collections, research and architecture, showcasing their distinctive artistic works.
