Pension Payments Reissued: Pension payments reissued at MEB in Falam

The pension payments were reissued on September 21 at the Myanmar Economic Bank in Falam Township, which had been closed for nearly two years due to the violent incidents. Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Than Zaw Lwin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation from the Chin State Government, U Win Zaw Oo, and members of the Chin State Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee visited to observe and provide encouragement.

The Deputy Minister and party inspected the pension disbursement process at the Myanmar Economic Bank and warmly conversed with retired personnel who came to collect their pensions. All types of pensions including civil pension, political pension, defense pension, police pension, and bank pension are being disbursed. Those who fled their homes due to violent incidents and were unable to collect their pensions must come to the Falam bank and reapply for permission to withdraw their pensions. It is reported that retired personnel withdrawing their pensions for the first time in Falam Township may apply in person between the 1st and 18th of each month.

Due to violent incidents, Myanmar Economic Bank operations in Falam were temporarily suspended in November 2024. After the Tatmadaw regained control of Falam Township in April 2026, Myanmar Economic Bank was reopened on July 6, 2026, and has been providing services. Today marks the first time pension payments have been reissued. The Deputy Minister and the State Minister served tea and snacks to the retired personnel who came to collect their pensions and donated powdered milk.

Continuing, the Deputy Minister and party visited Surbung Airport to inspect the damage to the main terminal building, air traffic control tower, and airport staff housing, as well as the loss and damage to equipment and the condition of the runway. U Than Myint Kyaw, Head of the Department of Civil Aviation Training Institute under the Ministry of Transport, explained the damage and the repair and renovation work processes.

Surbung Airport was built as Chin State's first air gateway at a cost of 43.79 billion kyats, and it is reported that an ATR 72 aircraft made its first test landing on October 27, 2020. Now, due to violent incidents, some airport buildings have been partially damaged and equipment has been destroyed, which is reported to be a significant loss not only for the state but also for local residents.

It is reported that now, in accordance with the guidance of the Head of State, rehabilitation and reconstruction work in Chin State is being carried out continuously without pause under the close supervision of committee members, including responsible officials from ministries led by Union Deputy Ministers.
