On September 18, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan officially inaugurated the fourth main runway at IGA Istanbul Airport, expanding the airport's total capacity to six active runways.
Built with an investment of €890 million, the new concrete runway measures 2,820 meters in length and 45 meters in width. This marks the airport's first landing strip oriented along an east-west axis, designed to optimize flight paths and resist severe weather disruptions. Situated close to the airport's hangar complexes, the runway allows private jets and general aviation traffic to operate without interfering with primary commercial flights.
According to official statements at the ceremony, airport-related activities are projected to support over 470,000 jobs and contribute $44 billion to Türkiye's economy by 2030 as global hub operations expand.
