South Africans voted Wednesday in a local election, with the results set to gauge the political mood ahead of the next national vote. Polls opened at 7:00 am local time, with stations due to close at 9:00 pm. Some 2.6 million people were allowed to vote early on Monday and Tuesday but only 1.4 million voted, the electoral commission said.
Final results, expected on Sunday, will offer a clearer picture of the political landscape before the next general election in 2029.
