Algeria and Mali are actively rebuilding bilateral relations following a high-level visit by Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb to Bamako. Relations hit a severe diplomatic crisis in April 2025 after Algeria shot down a Malian military drone near their border.

Diplomatic channels began to reopen in July 2026 with the reinstatement of ambassadors and the lifting of airspace restrictions. Both countries emphasized regional stability, recognizing that closer coordination is vital to curb the spread of armed groups across the Sahara and the wider Sahel region. Discussions also touched upon mining, agriculture, financial services, livestock, and agro-industries.
