











Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw, together with officials, inspected ongoing riverbank protection works in Chaung Phyar Village in Nyaungdon Township on September 16.
They inspected temporary embankment works, sandbag reinforcement, bamboo floating structures, steel cable groynes, porcupines, geotextile covering and river dredging carried out to protect the Nyaungdon Island embankment from erosion by the Ayeyawady River.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to closely monitor the river flow, water level and riverbank conditions and to take timely preventive measures where necessary. So far, workers have completed 2,450 feet of temporary embankment, 5,900 feet of sandbag reinforcement, 1,200 feet of sandbag-filled bamboo piling, 1,200 feet of slope protection, 1,600 feet of geotextile covering and 9,320 cubic metres of river dredging.
They have also installed 1,000 feet of bamboo floating structures, 10 steel cable groynes measuring 100 feet each, and 738 porcupines. Riverbank protection works are continuing with machinery and manpower.
