Combating Online Gambling: Seven senior agents of illegal online games arrested

Authorities have arrested seven people, including senior agents, for allegedly operating and promoting illegal online gambling games in Yangon and Mandalay Regions.

Acting on a tip-off, authorities arrested Ibet 789 online gambling Senior Agent Phyo Theingi at Yangon International Airport on 2 September. On the same day, Senior Agent Hnin Wut Yee Kyaw and two others were arrested in Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Region, with mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet and a vehicle.

On 4 September, Senior Agent Kyaw Soe Lin was arrested at a hotel in Hlaingthaya Township with two mobile phones and two vehicles. Senior Agent Yin Yin Nu was also arrested in Thaketa Township with a mobile phone. A total of seven suspects, comprising two men and five women, were arrested.

Authorities also seized 13 mobile phones, one laptop, one tablet and three vehicles allegedly used in operating the online gambling activities. Legal action is being taken against the suspects, while authorities are continuing efforts to identify and arrest other people involved in illegal online gambling operations.
