Canada Prime Minister warns trade war with US won't be easy or free of cost

Prime Minister Mark Carney warned Canadian Tuesday that a pivot from the US to other “trusted partners” will come with a cost. Carney released Tuesday a lengthy video message talking about the deteriorating trade relations with the US and why he felt Canada had to take the fight.

The statement was released the same day as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion of US imports came into effect. The Canadian tariffs were a response to US tariffs initiated when the trade negotiations between the US and Canada broke down more than two weeks ago.
