Notting Hill Carnival's 60th anniversary: Londoners attend the parade

The Notting Hill Carnival Europe’s largest street festival is celebrating its 60th anniversary over the August Bank Holiday weekend in West London.

The roots of the carnival trace back to the Wind rush generation and street festival initiatives in 1966. Originally founded as a response to racial tensions and the 1958 Notting Hill race riots, it has grown over six decades into a massive global celebration of British-Caribbean heritage, culture, art, and music.

Began early with J'Ouvert (paint and powder celebration) followed by the Family & Children's Parade, alongside dozens of static sound systems. Features the main Adults' Parade, where over two million people attend to see elaborate Mas band costumes, live soca, reggae, and calypso performances, and street food vendors serving traditional Caribbean cuisine.
