
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa congratulated the Syrian people following the official removal of Syria from the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list. In a public statement, President al-Sharaa expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for a “historic decision,” while also extending thanks to international allies and partner nations who supported Syria during its period of isolation.
On Monday, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Thomas Barrack said Washington had formally revoked the designation of Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism. Washington designated Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism in 1979 and has maintained the designation for decades, citing then Syrian government's ties with Lebanon's Hezbollah, Palestinian factions, and Iran.
