A gold mine in the Central African Republic collapsed on Tuesday, killing more than 100 people. Search and rescue efforts continue, as multiple people remain unaccounted for.

The collapse occurred at the site, which is located near the border with Cameroon. Local investigative authorities said they are looking into the cause of the collapse and trying to identify those responsible for operating the mine. A media reports that several thousand people work in small-scale extraction mining in the Central African Republic. The media outlet said the miners typically do not have enough protection, and that often leads to deadly outcomes.
