




Heavy monsoon rains have lashed India’s financial capital Mumbai, flooding roads, disrupting transport and forcing authorities to shut schools and colleges.
At least six people, including five children, were killed on Sunday when a dilapidated residential building collapsed in eastern Mumbai amid continuous downpours. Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde said the collapse trapped residents under debris as emergency teams carried out rescue operations.
The India Meteorological Department recorded more than 200mm of rainfall in 24 hours and issued a red alert for continued heavy rain and gusty winds. Authorities urged residents to remain indoors where possible, warning of risks from falling trees and waterlogging across the city.
