Indonesia and Singapore have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation and the right of passage through the strategically important Malacca Strait, as the leaders of both countries pledged closer cooperation on maritime security. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto hosted Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Jakarta on Monday, where security in the Malacca and Singapore straits featured prominently on the leaders' agenda.
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said "Both President Prabowo and I agree we will do our part together with other littoral states to ensure the Strait of Malacca and the Strait of Singapore remain safe, open, accessible to all."
The two sides agreed to work alongside other littoral states to keep one of the world's busiest shipping lanes secure and open to international navigation.
