Commemorative event: World MSME Day held in Nay Pyi Taw

A ceremony to commemorate World MSME Day took place at Myanmar International Convention Center-1 in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

President U Min Aung Hlaing attended the event and delivered an address.

The President said micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are a key driver of Myanmar's economic growth, creating jobs and supporting local economies. He noted that the United Nations recognizes MSMEs for their vital role in achieving sustainable development.

He emphasized the need for Myanmar's MSMEs to adopt digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve competitiveness and build the next generation of businesses. He also highlighted the importance of using locally available agricultural and livestock products to produce value-added goods, to reduce imports and to expand exports.

The President said the government has established the Ministry of Industry and MSME Development and continues to provide financial support, skills training and technology assistance to strengthen the sector. He called on regional governments, financial institutions and the private sector to work together to improve access to raw materials, financing, digital technology and markets.

He also encouraged MSME entrepreneurs to embrace e-commerce, digital payment systems and stronger supply chains, while promoting cooperation between small businesses and large industries. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting MSMEs so they can compete in regional and global markets and contribute to Myanmar's long-term economic development. This was followed by presenting of prizes to the outstanding MSME businesses from regions and states.

The ceremony also featured screening of a video clip on MSME development, presenting the commemorative gift and MSME commemorative exhibition. A total of 149 booths showcasing products from government ministries, regional and state MSMEs, small-scale industries and business associations are on display at the exhibition.

The exhibits included locally produced food, clothing, consumer goods, traditional handicrafts, agricultural machinery, farming equipment, fertilizers, seeds and a wide range of products made by Myanmar's MSMEs.
