





A ceremony marking the 39th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking took place at the hall of Nay Pyi Taw Council Office on Friday with the attendance of Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Kan Myint Than and concerned officials.
Speaking at the event, the Council Chairman said that illegal drug use and trafficking are profound global crises that threaten public health, security, and economic stability. To get rid of illegal drug abuse by the public, the ceremonies on day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking are held widely nationwide. He called for collaboration between the departments and public in preventing the import of illegal substances while taking action to those involved in the drug related cases.
During the event, the message sent by Union Minister for Home Affairs and Chairman of Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control Lt. Gen Nyunt Win Swe was read out, followed by screening of a video clip on working processes of the central committee. Awards were also presented to the winners of the commemorative contests marking the 39th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
After the ceremony, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman and party toured around the displayed booths. This year's International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held under the theme “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses”. The ceremony featured knowledge sharing sessions on drug abuse, treatment and rehabilitation processes along with the establishing of posters and pamphlets.
