Chinese authorities have launched a new initiative to expand rail tourism through 2030, as part of efforts to boost domestic consumption and the service sector. Under the plan, more than 160 special tourist train services will be introduced by 2030.

A joint policy issued by several government agencies outlines 15 measures to upgrade rail tourism infrastructure, modernise train services and develop travel products for different tourism segments. China’s railway network recorded more than 4.25 billion passenger trips last year, while nearly 2,500 tourist train services were operated, up by more than one-third compared with previous years.
