German President Steinmeier visits Indonesia's largest mosque and Catholic church

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Jakarta for an official one-day state visit. This visit marks his first meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto since Prabowo assumed office.  A highly symbolic highlight of President Steinmeier's itinerary was his afternoon visit to Southeast Asia’s largest mosque and Jakarta's primary Catholic church, focusing heavily on interfaith harmony.

President Steinmeier began his interfaith tour at the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia. Then, he departed on Monday evening to fly to Manila, Philippines, for the next leg of his Asian diplomatic tour.
