The Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture held a historical awareness seminar at the National Library in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

Union Minister U Maung Myint attended the event and stressed the importance of preserving Myanmar’s history and culture while promoting national pride. He said architectural heritage and literature left by past generations can help strengthen unity and national spirit among today’s youth, encouraging them to learn from history.

The Union Minister highlighted the discovery of 40 million year old primates in the Pondaung area, noting that museum exhibits and archaeological findings demonstrate Myanmar’s long historical presence.

He said research and excavations conducted by local and international experts, including studies of the Pondaungian and Anyathian cultures, show Myanmar’s significant place in human civilization and should be passed on to future generations. He also expressed confidence that the seminar would deepen participants’ understanding of history and culture and further strengthen national spirit.

During the seminar, the Director-General of the Department of Historical Research and National Library reported on the matters related to historical awareness.

The Vice Chairman (2) of the Myanmar Historical Commission (MHC), then presented a lecture titled “The Beginning of History and Culture,” covering Myanmar’s cultural and historical development from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages through the Pyu and Bagan periods. The seminar also included a question and answer session involving invited guests, students, parents and members of the public.
