El Salvador is on high alert as Tropical Storm Cristina approaches, triggering the closure of schools and the suspension of fishing activities. Heavy rains and storm surges threaten the Pacific coast, leaving coastal communities bracing for severe flooding and landslides.

While education authorities closed all schools and universities, many coastal businesses, particularly in heavily impacted tourism and fishing zones, have temporarily shut their doors. Meteorologists warned that the storm could dump between 8 to 12 inches of rain, or even up to 12-14 inches in isolated coastal zones, exacerbating the flood risk.
