Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Wednesday affirmed their cooperation on stable liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments to help secure Tokyo's energy supply amid Mideast tensions.

At a Tokyo summit, both leaders formalized a 20-year deal between Malaysia's Petronas and Japan's JERA to supply 2 million tons of LNG annually starting in 2028. Beyond energy, the leaders discussed bolstering critical mineral supply chains, cooperating on AI policies, sharing expertise in nuclear energy technology, and pushing to expand the use of local currencies for bilateral trade.
