Bilateral Meeting: MOFA UM received his Indonesian Counterpart

At the invitation of U Tin Maung Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Mr. Sugiono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, accompanied by his spouse and an Indonesian delegation, arrived in Nay Pyi Taw on an official visit on June 8, 2026.

The Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received and held talks with his Indonesian counter-part and his delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of the same day. During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers cordially and openly discussed matters pertaining to further strengthening the long-standing traditional friendship between Myanmar and Indonesia, enhancing cooperation to open a new chapter in bilateral relations including diplomatic ties, promoting collaboration on regional and international fronts including ASEAN, and increasing economic cooperation and collaboration in mutually beneficial sectors.

The Union Minister for Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s positive welcome of Myanmar’s peace process and political developments. He stated that cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries will be strengthened, and that Myanmar will continue to engage responsibly as a member state in cooperation with ASEAN, proceeding with a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned process that suits the country.

He further expressed appreciation and thanks to Indonesia and ASEAN member states that understand and support Myanmar’s positive developments, and requested continued support from Indonesia for Myanmar’s human resource development, including the provision of scholarships.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister stated that Indonesia will work to enhance existing relations with Myanmar. He acknowledged Indonesia’s recognition of Myanmar’s efforts in pursuing peace, national reconciliation, and democracy following the emergence of a new government through elections.

He also affirmed Indonesia’s recognition that Myanmar is implementing the five-point ASEAN consensus through a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned process. Having been a member of the ASEAN family for many years, Myanmar should continue to participate in ASEAN activities. Indonesia understands the challenges faced by a multi-ethnic society like Myanmar and wishes to participate in and support Myanmar’s peace process.

He also expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation in the sectors of economy, education, health, people-to-people exchanges, and humanitarian assistance. The delegation led by the Indonesian Foreign Minister arrived in Nay Pyi Taw by special aircraft on the afternoon of June 8th  and was welcomed by U Naing Min Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, along with the Director-General and responsible officials. The delegation departed for Indonesia in the evening of the same day.
