Implementation of Peacemaking Process: NSPNC & SNNUA held meeting for peacemaking process

The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Central Committee, led by the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, believing that it is especially necessary to cease armed conflicts and resolve political issues through political means in carrying out peace processes, has issued Announcement No. 1/2026 on April 21, offering and inviting talks without preconditions in order to implement peace processes for national development, stability and peace.

On Thursday, a meeting between the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the Shan Ni Nationalities Unity Association was held in Nay Pyi Taw. First, the Chairman of the Negotiation Committee, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, and the Vice Chairman (1) of the Shan Ni Nationalities Unity Association, Sao Sai Kam , delivered opening remarks respectively.

Afterwards, those in attendance discussed matters relating to the conditions for further actions concerning regional stability and peace, the residence of Shan Ni (Tai Lyan, Tai Laing ethnic people in Kachin State and Sagaing Region and the desire to obtain a self-administered zone in accordance with the law, the needs encountered in undertaking regional stability and tranquility within Kachin State and Sagaing Region, living harmoniously together within the Union framework in cooperation with the Government, providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and the situation of regional cooperation.

Subsequently, the Negotiation Committee clarified and discussed in detail matters concerning the historical demographic population of Shan Ni (Tai Lyan, Tai Laing )  people, the usage of ethnic names according to registration documents, and the desire for regional recognition, as well as the conditions for submitting these matters to the Hluttaw in accordance with the Constitution.

After that, NSPNC Secretary, Lt-Gen Min Naing, clarified and discussed further peace processes and regional development matters that could be carried out moving forward from the discussions. Afterwards, the leader of the Shan Ni Nationalities Unity Association delegation, Vice Chairman (1) Sao Sai Kam , expressed words of thanks, and the NSPNC Chairman, Lt-GenYar Pyae, gave concluding remarks.
