A total of 2,570 Vesak lanterns were released into the sky at Borobudur Temple, Central Java, Indonesia. The lanterns were launched by Buddhist devotees and visitors as part of the celebration of the 2570 Buddhist Era Vesak Day.

For Buddhists, the lantern release symbolizes prayers and hopes for the future. It is believed that by releasing lanterns into the sky, their wishes and aspirations may be fulfilled. The lanterns also represent enlightenment, as well as the prayers and hopes of the Buddhist community.

As the lanterns drift freely into the night sky, they symbolize freedom and spiritual liberation following the observance of the sacred Vesak celebration. This year’s series of Vesak activities began with free medical services and concluded with the symbolic lantern release ceremony.
