The reopening of Bunia airport “is a good sign in the response to the Ebola outbreak” raging in this region of northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, said the World Health Organization’s Director of Emergencies on Tuesday.

The Congolese authorities had closed the airport to commercial flights for a week in order to contain the disease. The country of 100 million people declared on May 15 that it was battling a major epidemic of the highly contagious haemorrhagic fever, prompting the World Health Organization to issue an international health alert.
