





Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin met with members of pagoda board of trustees in Yangon Region on Sunday, to discuss measures for maintaining cleanliness, orderliness, and a dignified environment at religious sites.
The Union Minister emphasized the importance of keeping pagodas, stupas, monasteries, and surrounding areas clean and attractive for pilgrims, visitors, and tourists. He noted that Myanmar is widely known as the “Golden Land” due to its many revered Buddhist monuments and stressed the need to preserve their beauty and sanctity.
The Union Minister urged local authorities and boards of trustees to work together to ensure proper maintenance of religious sites, including entrances, prayer halls, rest houses, market stalls, drainage systems, and green spaces.
He also called for orderly management of shops within pagoda precincts and the prevention of inappropriate sales activities that may disturb pilgrims. Attendees discussed challenges and requirements in their respective sectors, and the Union Minister coordinated the needs. It is learnt that Yangon Region is home to 2,350 pagodas and temples, along with 9,030 monasteries and nunneries.
