A coordination meeting regarding the draft Marine Fisheries Law was held Tuesday afternoon at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Legal Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo and responsible officials, as well as Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Ye Tun Win and related officials. At the meeting, Deputy Minister Dr. Ye Tun Win explained that the existing fisheries-related laws had been in force for many years and were no longer in line with current conditions and the modern era.

He noted that the laws had become significantly different from practical realities in the field and were not consistent with internationally practiced laws and regulations. Therefore, the draft Marine Fisheries Law was being prepared to address these issues.

Union Minister and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo discussed that the draft law was intended to support the implementation of the agriculture and livestock sectors in accordance with guidance from the Head of State, who had emphasized promoting an economy based on agriculture and livestock breeding.

She added that, in line with instructions from the Union Government, Union ministries were required to prepare important and appropriate draft laws that remained unapproved from the previous Hluttaw so they could be submitted to the upcoming Hluttaw session. She further stated that the draft Marine Fisheries Law was designed to help effectively implement the agriculture and livestock sector, and that after coordinating and revising the necessary provisions to align with current conditions, the process for enacting the law would continue in accordance with legislative procedures, it’s learnt.
