The Commander-in-Chief Office (Army, Navy, Air) held the 10th annual Kason Water-Pouring Ceremony at the Sacred Bodhi Trees at Lawka Chantha Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw Zeyathiri Township on Thursday.
The event, observed on the full moon day of Kason, is part of Myanmar’s traditional annual festivals. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swar Lin, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and Commander-in-Chief (Air), along with their spouses, officers, families, and local officials, attended the ceremony.
The ceremony began with offerings of oil lamps, flowers, and water to the pagoda. Participants recited “Namo Tassa” three times and performed circumambulation around the trees while sprinkling scented water, symbolizing merit-sharing.
The Kason Water-Pouring Ceremony is a Buddhist tradition in Myanmar, held on the full moon day of Kason to honor the prophecy for Buddhahood, Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nirvana under the Maha Bodhi trees. The sprinkling of scented water helps cool the sacred trees during the hottest month of the year, reflecting reverence and care.
