Clarification on Hydropower Project: Kachin State CM delivered the opening remarks

Members of the Kachin State Local Committee for Project Support and Cooperation, in connection with the Ayeyarwady Myitsone–Myitnya Hydropower Project, held a clarification and discussion meeting with temporarily displaced families and local residents from Naung Chain Village Tract, Waingmaw Township, on April 28 at the hall of the Kachin Baptist Church in Naung Chain Village.

At the meeting, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan delivered opening remarks. The Chief Minister, the Deputy Speaker of the State Hluttaw, and State Ministers provided assistance to households affected by natural disasters from 19 temporary displacement camps within the village tract. A total of 500 bags of rice were distributed, and 20 million kyats was provided to households whose shelters in the camps had been damaged by strong winds.

Afterwards, members of the local committee gave PowerPoint presentations explaining technical aspects of the hydropower project, geological findings, dam structures, and anticipated development benefits. Local residents in attendance raised questions and concerns regarding technical matters, potential impacts, and the benefits for the local community. Committee members responded and discussed these issues sector by sector.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister attended an exhortation ceremony for outstanding students for the 2025–2026 academic year, held at Mali Kha Hall of the State Government Office, where honorary cash awards were presented.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister delivered congratulatory remarks and awarded a total of 4.3 million in honor to outstanding students and supervising teachers. An outstanding student expressed words of thanks, and commemorative group photos were taken with the students, it’s learned.
