Cross-Border Labour: High-level ASEAN roundtable discussion

Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Labour U Khin Maung Soe attended the High-level ASEAN roundtable discussion on - “Cross-border Labour,” held in Metro Manila of the Philippines on  24th April.

The discussion aimed to promote safe labour migration and rights for migrant workers, to reduce risk along migrant routes and to clarify the development opportunities through rules and regulations. It was attended by Ministers and high-level delegations from ASEAN member states, Secretariat office and IMO.

The discussion focused on 3 sectors including partnership, labour migration and protection, and crisis, climate change and health. The Union Minister stated that it is necessary to closely cooperate among ASEAN member states in cross-border labour to reduce the gap in implementing  migration management, technology and experience.

During the meeting, the Union Minister frankly discussed with AMS labour Ministers and presented the record-books of tasks completion advised by ILO. He also met with the delegations of Thailand and Laos  seperately, and exchanged views on ongoing labours issues.
