Religious Tour: Visiting the Venerable Sayadaws and Ordination Hall

Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin  on April 18 paid homage to the Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, who is the Patron Sayadaw of Thanlyin Min Kyaung Pahtamapyan Sarthintaik.

He offered donations and discussed religious matters related to the successful holding of the grand auspicious ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council, and received religious guidance from the Sayadaw.  After that, the Union Minister visited the State Pariyatti Sasana University (Yangon) and paid homage to the Rector Sayadaw, the Patron of Maha Thein Daw Gyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik.

They also discussed matters on the 70th anniversary celebration of the Sixth Buddhist Council. Then, the Union Minister and party, together with the Rector Sayadaw, proceeded to the Maha Thein Daw Gyi, located in Maha Thein Daw Gyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Pabedan Township.

It is known that this Maha Thein Daw Gyi is one of nine ordination halls established in Yangon by eight Arahant monks, who participated in the Third Buddhist Council in 235 Buddhist Era. It was also called Kyaitmyat Thancho Ordination Hall, and it is said to have been established as an ordination boundary for about 2,330 years. The hall was renovated more than 100 years ago, and it is now 111 years old.
