Parliament elects Anutin as Thailand’s Prime Minister

Thailand’s House of Representatives on Thursday elected Anutin Charnvirakul as the country’s new Prime Minister with 293 votes. His opponent, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut of the People’s Party, received 119 votes, while 86 members abstained.

The parliamentary session, chaired by House Speaker Sopon Sarum, convened to approve a candidate under Section 159 of the Constitution. Following a period of debate, the roll-call vote proceeded alphabetically. The session was adjourned at 1:21 PM local time.
