The Implementation Committee on Myanmar’s Five-Year National Plan to Combat Human Trafficking held its meeting at the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday. A total of 30 departmental representatives and concerned officials led by the Committee Chairman, Chief of the Myanmar Police Force Police Lt-Gen Win Zaw Moe.

In his opening remarks, the Police Chief said Myanmar has designated combating human trafficking as a national responsibility since 1997. Since 2007, five-year national plans have been implemented systematically through annual work plans in cooperation with relevant departments, civil society organizations, international organizations and neighboring countries.

He said the 2026 Work Plan, based on the Fourth Five-Year Plan (2022–2026), focuses on four key areas related to policy and cooperation, prevention, prosecution and protection, while addressing emerging forms of human trafficking. He added that preventive measures have been expanded through public awareness campaigns, including pamphlet distribution, billboards and posters, talk shows, educational programs on state media and sending SMS messages through telephone operators.

Myanmar citizens who faced difficulties while working abroad are being repatriated in cooperation with Myanmar embassies in the relevant countries and returned to their families. During the meeting, the committee members discussed the implementation status, challenges and difficulties related to the 2026 work plan.

The Committee Chairman urged relevant ministries and departments to effectively implement the processes in their respective sectors to achieve the targets of the Fourth Five-Year National Plan (2022–2026) to combat human trafficking.
