Two-thirds of Cuba, including Havana, were left without electricity on Wednesday due to a failure in the national grid and the energy embargo imposed by the United States.

Cuba civilians has experienced five widespread blackouts since the end of 2014. The national electricity company reported that the disconnection of the National Electrical System occurred due to a boiler malfunction at the Antonio Guiteras power plant.

In addition to recurring widespread blackouts, Havana has experienced power outages of more than 15 hours in recent days. It was known that no oil tankers had arrived in Cuba since January 9th, forcing the current Cuban government to adopt drastic austerity measures, including suspending diesel sales and rationing gasoline, as well as reducing some hospital services.
